Located off the Northwest coast of Africa, Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and due to its constant good weather proves a popular all year round destination.
Enjoy a day at the beach, walk along a trail that ventures into lush forests, or discover the impressive volcano Mount Teide within some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes of the Teide National Park that is almost moonlike. Where you can also spend an evening of star-gazing, which is an incredible experience, or maybe the chance to sail alongside whales and dolphins off the magnificent southwest coast. Tenerife also still preserves beautiful historic towns, stroll around, museums and charming villages full of local traditions.
If you like a more sporting life, especially ones related to sea and golf, there is plenty to choose from, as well as tennis academies, hiking and cycling. Or theme and waterpark fun can be enjoyed by all the family and are paradise for children.
The amount of sunshine in Tenerife is very good throughout the year, however, in addition to the low pressure systems that can pass through the island from October to March, cloud banks can form in summer on the Atlantic Ocean and reach the island. On the northern coast, and especially on the mountain slopes exposed to the north, local clouds and fogs can form. The south coast is therefore the sunniest.
On the north coast (see Garachico, Puerto de la Cruz), temperatures are 1-2 degrees Celsius (2-3.5 °F) lower than on the other coasts. In addition, it rains more often, the landscape is quite green even on the coast, and the sea is often rough.
